Certified Dental Assistant jobs are plentiful at the moment in BC! Certified Dental Assistants, otherwise known as a CDA, are in high demand. What is a Certified Dental Assistant or CDA?

Certified Dental Assistants are important members of the dental team. They assist the dentist or specialist during procedures in clinical settings, provide oral health education and comfort to patients, as well as they often assist the administrative team with office tasks. CDAs typically find jobs in general dental offices, specialty practices such as pediatric dental offices, endodontics, orthodontics, or oral surgery. They also practice in hospital dental clinics, educational institutions, the BC Cancer Agency, community health clinics, and residential care facilities for seniors and the disabled. Job opportunities for Certified Dental Assistants also exist in sales and marketing of dental products, dental insurance companies, and dental research. Dental Assistants who have completed approved training and are registered with the College of Dental Surgeons of BC are considered and referred to as Certified Dental Assistants because they are legally certified to practice in British Columbia.

How do I become a Certified Dental Assistant?

BC highschool graduates are eligible to study 10-12 months in a post secondary institution to become a Certified Dental Assistant. In order to become certified, you must receive training from an accredited program in British Columbia or receive training and complete the National Dental Assisting Examination Board (NDAEB) written exam and the Clinical Practice Exam (CPE). Completion of the NDAEB exam and the CPE exam will allow you to apply for certification and registration with the College of Dental Surgeons of BC, the regulatory body for Certified Dental Assistants. Upon receiving your certification, you may find a job working as a CDA in BC!
